It was the 1970's in England and it was the first and last Halloween that my mum ever celebrated because of a frightening paranormal experience that she had.
My mum was a nursing student at the time and rented an apartment with two of her female friends. Growing up in England in that time the church strongly discouraged celebrating Halloween. So, my mum never did celebrate it until she was a young adult. My mum had grown up going to church and when she was in school went to an all-girls Catholic school. The apartment that she rented was the lower level of an old Victorian house complete with its own private garden. It had two bedrooms, her friends shared one and my mum had her own. My mum's bedroom had a hallway outside of it that led to the bathroom and the garden. So, to get the bathroom you had to walk through my mum's bedroom and open the door that led to the hallway and walk down the hallway to the bathroom. Another door in the hallway led to the private garden in the back that had ten-foot-tall stone walls surrounding it for privacy. My mum and her friend dressed up as a giant pumpkin, they were in the same costume. Each one had control of one side of the pumpkin, one was the left side of the arms and legs, and one was the right side. They had a fun night going out to different pubs and parties until it was late, and they decided to go home. My mum woke up around 2am or 3am to the sound of the back door of her bedroom, that led to the hallway, swinging open violently. She jumped up out of her bed to see that the back door to the garden was also swinging open violently. She felt a cold rush of wind come through the hallway towards her and saw a tall dark shadowy figure come through the garden door into the house. The back door to the garden had been locked before she went to bed. My mum rushed out of her room to check on her friends only to find them both fast asleep. My mum still doesn't like talking about this story to this day as it frightened her so much and she doesn't like remembering that night.
